The 2024 Ghana Digital and Innovation Week (GDIW), held from October 2nd to 4th at the Accra International Conference Centre, was an exciting gathering that highlighted the transformative potential of technology across different sectors. Under the theme “Innovate Together: Collaborating for Digital Transformation and Impact”, the event focused on bringing together diverse audiences, from junior high school students to startups and industry professionals, to explore the future of digital transformation in Ghana.
Key discussions at the event covered various critical areas, including how to integrate digital skills into Ghana’s education system to better prepare students for the evolving job market. This was complemented by a spotlight on robotics and artificial intelligence (AI), where the need for authentic datasets to train AI models locally was a prominent topic. Concerns around AI ethics and the protection of personal data also sparked rich conversations about the importance of developing strong legal frameworks to safeguard against unauthorized data use.
The agricultural sector was another area of focus, with updates on how technology is being leveraged to improve farming practices and productivity. Furthermore, content creators shared their experiences, discussing how digital platforms have shaped their careers and the importance of digital literacy.
The event featured over 20 tech companies, startups, and educational institutions showcasing innovative products and services, underscoring Ghana’s growing tech ecosystem. This year’s GDIW was driven by the collaboration between local and international stakeholders, including the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Program (NEIP), Ghana Hubs Network (GHN), Impact Investing Ghana (IIGh), and global partners like GIZ and MASHAV
