Google has officially started rolling out Android 15 to Pixel devices, beginning October 15, 2024. The update will initially reach phones in the Pixel 6 series and newer models, including the Pixel 9, which launched recently. Other smartphone manufacturers are expected to release the update for their devices in the coming months.
Android 15 introduces several new features aimed at enhancing privacy, usability, and multimedia capabilities. A key addition is the “Private Space,” allowing users to create a secure area within their devices for sensitive apps. The update also improves media handling with better HDR management and audio controls. Additionally, new low-light camera enhancements, including optimized flash intensity and better QR code scanning, are included in the upgrade.
Another noteworthy improvement is better multitasking support, especially on larger screens. Users can now save split-screen configurations and pin frequently used apps on the taskbar, making Android 15 more efficient for productivity tasks. The update also simplifies sign-ins with passkeys and provides alerts if apps detect unauthorized recordings.
While the update is rolling out progressively, Google has already released the source code to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), paving the way for other manufacturers like Samsung, Xiaomi, and OnePlus to bring the update to their devices in the coming months.
