The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has unveiled Ghana’s first virtual reality studios to enhance teaching and learning through innovative e-learning technologies. The initiative aims to revolutionize education by increasing engagement and retention rates among students, encouraging faculty and students to embrace virtual reality for a more immersive educational experience.

The facility, comprising virtual reality spaces and ideation rooms, fosters creativity, collaboration, and innovation. Provost of the College of Science, Prof. Leonard Kofitse Amekudzi, highlighted its utility in visualizing complex scientific concepts, providing students with an immersive learning environment.

With 11 high-tech virtual reality devices, the studios cater to diverse disciplines and learning preferences. Prof. Charles Ofosu Marfo, Provost of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, underscored the inclusivity of this initiative, particularly benefiting students with disabilities by enabling accessible learning experiences.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson, called for continued support to expand the initiative, ensuring graduates are globally competitive. With plans to increase the number of devices to 50 or more, she urged the public, alumni, and stakeholders to contribute to advancing teaching and learning at KNUST.
