Tendo Technologies Limited, an innovative online retail platform empowering African entrepreneurs, has announced its strategic acquisition of Shopa, a leading provider of commerce solutions for informal retailers in Ghana.

The acquisition, structured as a combination of cash and stock, marks a significant step in transforming Africa’s supply chain landscape. By integrating Shopa’s extensive offline network of distributors, primarily in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector, Tendo aims to expand its product offerings and open new opportunities for entrepreneurs. Currently, FMCG contributes over 30% to Tendo’s overall volume, and this acquisition is expected to ensure consistent product supply for resellers while further strengthening Tendo’s position in the market. The partnership will also empower African FMCG distributors, many of whom operate offline, by connecting them to Tendo’s network of over 10,000 online resellers, thereby unlocking new online channels for business growth.

Under the acquisition, Shopa will rebrand as Tendo Retail, a new division within Tendo dedicated to equipping Africa’s informal distributors with cutting-edge technology to scale their businesses. Frank Addae, CEO and Co-Founder of Shopa, will lead this new division, bringing extensive expertise in digitizing informal retail supply chains. The integration of Tendo and Shopa’s technologies will create a unified experience, providing more comprehensive support for users.

Felix Manford, CEO of Tendo, shared his enthusiasm, stating: “We’re thrilled to welcome Shopa, a critical provider of supply chain technology in Africa, into the Tendo family. At Tendo, our mission is to support entrepreneurs and small businesses in launching and scaling their ventures by making supply chains more accessible. Through our partnership with Shopa, we’ll leverage their robust distribution technology and supplier network to deliver greater value to both offline and online retailers. Together, we will transform the retail landscape in Africa and empower entrepreneurs across the continent.”

Frank Addae, CEO of Shopa, also commented: “We’re excited to join forces with Tendo, an innovative social commerce platform dedicated to empowering online entrepreneurs in Africa. This partnership provides us with access to Tendo’s extensive resources, enhancing our ability to support African suppliers and manufacturers. Our expanded services will help suppliers unlock new retail channels and reach a diverse mix of online and offline markets. With our shared vision and values, Tendo and Shopa are set to elevate the informal retail sector in Africa to new heights.”
