Elon Musk’s X has announced the integration of audio and video conversation capabilities for Android users. The highly anticipated feature is set to enhance user experience and bring a new dimension to communication within the X app.
Android users eagerly awaiting the audio and video calling feature can now rejoice as the rollout has commenced. According to a post by Enrique, an X engineer, Android users can gradually expect to experience this functionality by updating their app. The announcement encourages users to stay connected with loved ones, as Enrique playfully suggests, “Update your app and call your mother.”

While the new feature is undoubtedly a game-changer, it comes with a catch – only premium users will have access to audio and video calling on X. To enable or disable this feature, users can navigate to Settings > Privacy and Safety > Direct Messages. From there, they can specify who can initiate audio and video calls, choosing from three distinct groups: contacts in their address book, those they follow, and verified users.
X users can enjoy a personalized experience with the ability to select multiple options for receiving calls. The flexibility to choose from different groups ensures that users have control over who can reach out to them via audio and video calls. This innovative approach to privacy settings caters to individual preferences and enhances the overall user experience.
In a strategic move, X introduced a new basic paid tier earlier this month, catering to verified organizations. Priced at $200 per month or $2,000 per year, this tier offers a more affordable alternative to the previously available “full access” subscription priced at $1,000 a month. Subscribers at the basic tier receive a gold check-mark badge and additional features, aimed at providing smaller businesses with essential tools for growth on the X platform.
The new basic paid tier is specifically designed to support smaller businesses, offering them ad credits and priority support. This strategic move by X reflects a commitment to fostering the growth of businesses on its platform. With this tier, certified companies can now access valuable features at a more accessible price point, potentially opening up new opportunities for a broader range of businesses.
