The Federal Government of Nigeria has introduced the MyCNG App, a new platform aimed at helping e-hailing drivers convert their petrol-powered vehicles to run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) at a 50% reduced cost. This initiative is part of the government’s broader efforts to promote CNG usage, reduce dependence on petrol and diesel, and make transportation more affordable in Nigeria.
Speaking at the launch of the Rideshare CNG Conversion Incentive Programme and MyCNG App in Abuja, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, emphasized the government’s commitment to providing accessible and affordable transportation. He highlighted that the rising cost of traditional fuels has increased transportation costs, and this new program is a bold response to those challenges.
“The CNG Conversion Incentive Programme, along with the MyCNG App, offers a 50% discount for rideshare drivers who sign up and schedule through the app, making CNG a more viable and cost-effective option,” Ekpo stated.
Folajimi Mohammed, CEO of Portland Gas, described the app as a groundbreaking effort to encourage CNG adoption among rideshare drivers. The app is designed to streamline the vehicle conversion process, maintain a comprehensive database, and provide better customer support.
Project Director and CEO of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative, Michael Oluwagbemiga, added that the global ride-hailing market is rapidly growing, and Nigeria’s e-hailing market is thriving. He emphasized that CNG is a key component of Nigeria’s efforts to use its resources more efficiently and support the transportation sector.
This initiative is expected to accelerate the adoption of CNG in Nigeria, contributing to a cleaner, greener, and more prosperous future for the country.
