Google has released Gemini 3, its latest and most capable foundation model, now available immediately through the Gemini app and the company’s AI search interface. The launch comes just seven months after the rollout of Gemini 2.5 and positions Google at the forefront of the current generation of large language models.
The release also arrives during an intense wave of frontier AI competition. OpenAI introduced GPT 5.1 less than a week ago, and Anthropic released Sonnet 4.5 only two months earlier. Together, the announcements underscore the unprecedented speed at which frontier models are being built and deployed.
Google said a more research-focused version of the model, Gemini 3 Deepthink, will become available to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the coming weeks after additional safety evaluations.
“With Gemini 3, we’re seeing this massive jump in reasoning,” said Tulsee Doshi, Google’s head of product for the Gemini model. “It’s responding with a level of depth and nuance that we haven’t seen before.”
Early benchmarks appear to support those claims. Gemini 3 recorded a score of 37.4 on the Humanity’s Last Exam benchmark, the highest to date. The previous record of 31.64 was held by GPT 5 Pro. The model also leads on the LMArena leaderboard, which measures real human satisfaction with model responses.
Google also disclosed that the Gemini app has more than 650 million monthly active users, and more than 13 million software developers have integrated the model into their workflows.
The company introduced a new coding interface alongside the base model, called Google Antigravity. The tool offers multi-pane, agentic coding capabilities, similar to agent-driven IDEs such as Warp and Cursor 2.0. Antigravity combines a prompt window, command-line interface, and a browser pane that displays the live impact of changes made by the agent.
“The agent can work with your editor, across your terminal, across your browser to make sure that it helps you build that application in the best way possible,” said DeepMind CTO Koray Kavukcuoglu.
