Elon Musk’s AI venture, xAI, is branching out with a standalone iOS app for its Grok chatbot. Previously exclusive to users on X (formerly Twitter), the chatbot is now making its way to a broader audience.
The app, currently in beta testing across Australia and select regions, integrates real-time web and X data to provide an array of AI-powered tools. Users can rephrase text, summarize lengthy content, engage in Q&A, and even generate visuals from text prompts.
According to the app’s description, “Grok is your AI sidekick, built to be supremely truthful, infinitely curious, and genuinely helpful. It’s your go-to for answers, image generation, and even interpreting uploaded photos.”
The xAI team isn’t stopping at the app. They’re working on launching Grok.com, a website that will host the chatbot for web users. Although the site is currently teasing a “coming soon” message for registered xAI accounts, its debut is eagerly anticipated.
Initially accessible only to X Premium subscribers, Grok has recently undergone a shift to inclusivity. A free version of the chatbot was piloted in November, with full access granted to all users earlier this month.
xAI claims Grok’s image-generation abilities stand out for their “photorealistic” quality. Unlike some competitors, it imposes fewer restrictions, allowing users to craft visuals incorporating public figures and copyrighted material—a decision that’s bound to spark some debate.
