Digital postal service provider MPost has introduced its innovative electronic P.O. Box system in Rwanda. This service aims to enhance the postal experience for residents of the East African nation by providing more accessible and efficient mail services.

The company moved to a co-working space in Kigali in November 2023 to strengthen its presence in Rwanda and expand across Africa due to regulatory challenges in Kenya.

MPost’s new service in Rwanda allows individuals and businesses to receive mail and parcels directly through their mobile phone numbers, eliminating the need for traditional physical post office boxes. This innovation is particularly significant in a country where less than 1% of the population can access a post office. The electronic P.O. Box system will provide users with instant SMS alerts for mail management, addressing the limitations and accessibility issues of the conventional postal system.

The launch aligns with the Rwandan government’s ongoing efforts to utilize technology for public service enhancement. On May 10, 2024, Iposita, the National Post Office, introduced its own electronic P.O. Box system to extend postal services from urban centers to remote areas nationwide.

MPost’s digital postal solutions are expected to positively impact Rwandan e-commerce by expanding reach, improving customer satisfaction, and reducing delivery times. This advancement will support local businesses and strengthen Rwanda’s position as a rising player in East African digital commerce.
