Four former senior managers at Paystack have entered the food and grocery delivery market by establishing GoLemon after exiting from Paystack. Yinka Adewuyi, Gbadegbo Gbade-Oyelakin, Abdulrahman Jogbojogbo, and Abiola Showemimo, all early employees at Paystack with at least six years of tenure, have taken key roles at GoLemon.

GoLemon aims to provide groceries and household items to both homes and businesses, competing with established players like Glovo and Chowdeck, as well as local favorites like Mano and Pricepally in Lagos.

Adewuyi, who served as a product lead at Paystack, assumes the role of CEO at GoLemon, while Gbade-Oyelakin, formerly leading Paystack’s core platforms team, becomes the CTO. Jogbojogbo, who was in charge of marketing at Paystack, will spearhead the startup’s growth, and Showemimo, one of Paystack’s first ten employees, will oversee operations.

The launching of GoLemon follows the exit of major players like Bolt and Jumia due to tough competition and economics. Leveraging the experience of its founders, the company manages inventory efficiently by sourcing directly from farmers and FMCGs. GoLemon aims to provide an end-to-end solution, optimizing costs through direct connections to suppliers and targeting customers with large orders and repeat purchases.

The launch of GoLemon comes amidst increasing interest in foodtech startups, highlighted by the recent launch of Mira, a foodtech startup by a former Flutterwave vice-president. Additionally, Y Combinator (YC) has been increasingly backing foodtech startups despite reducing its presence on the continent.
