Notably, Grok-2 models are multimodal, capable of handling tasks like text and image generation, and even interacting with external systems for real-world applications such as booking flights or unlocking devices.
One of the key features of the API is its integration support with other AI platforms, such as OpenAI and Anthropic, allowing developers to easily migrate or combine functionalities. Pricing for Grok-2 starts at $5 per million input tokens and $15 per million output tokens, which positions it as a more expensive alternative compared to OpenAI’s GPT-4, though it offers competitive performance in reasoning tasks.
The release is seen as Musk’s attempt to directly compete with OpenAI, a company he co-founded but later parted from.
