The program, which runs for three months, offers African startups mentorship, technical assistance, and access to a global network of experts and investors without any equity requirements.

“Since its inception in 2018, the program has supported 106 startups from 17 African countries, collectively raising over $263 million and creating more than 2,800 direct jobs,” the company highlighted.

Scheduled from June to September 2024, the Accelerator Program will feature equity-free support, mentorship from Google AI experts and industry leaders, technical workshops, global networking opportunities, and a supportive community of fellow founders.

AI has transformative potential in Africa’s tech ecosystem, with eligible startups expected to use AI/ML in a transformative manner. Google is committed to AI innovation in Africa, including initiatives like renaming its generative AI platform Bard to Gemini and releasing a dedicated Gemini mobile app.

Google’s managing director for Africa, Alex Okosi, elaborated on the company’s AI strategy in Africa, emphasizing its AI-powered search and how local businesses can leverage AI’s potential.
