Airtel Nigeria Telesonic Limited, the fibre service unit of Airtel Nigeria, has been granted three significant telecom licences by the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC), marking a major milestone just seven months after its launch. The licences—National Long Distance (NLD), Internet Service Provider (ISP), and Sales & Installation Major—will enable the company to expand its service offerings and infrastructure across the country.

Telesonic has been granted two significant telecommunications licences in Nigeria: the NLD licence, effective from July 1, 2024, for 20 years, allowing the company to offer long-distance telecommunication services domestically, and the ISP licence, valid for five years starting on the same date, enabling it to provide internet services directly to customers.

While the NLD licence does not permit international services or direct internet access provision, the ISP licence positions Telesonic to compete with established providers amid a decreasing number of active ISPs in the country. The growing interest in Nigeria’s telecommunication sector is highlighted by MTN Group’s subsidiary, Bayobab, also receiving the NLD licence in 2023.

Telesonic has been granted a Sales & Installation Major licence, valid for five years, enabling the company to sell, install, and maintain telecommunications equipment. This licence is vital for the development and sustainability of fibre-optic networks, which are essential for modern communication. As part of Airtel Nigeria Telesonic Limited, the company is focused on enhancing Nigeria’s digital infrastructure by manufacturing, importing, exporting, and distributing a wide range of fibre optic systems and networks, including cables and equipment for telecommunications and data networks.
