X is actively working to make its AI chatbot, Grok, more accessible to users across the platform. Today, multiple users observed that they can now mention Grok in replies to ask questions and receive AI-generated explanations about posts.
Previously, X users could access Grok through a button in the sidebar or by clicking the Grok button next to posts. This feature allows the chatbot to interpret both text and images, leveraging the image understanding capability introduced last year.
For the past few weeks, AI-powered search engine Perplexity has been operating an automated X account with a similar functionality—allowing users to ask questions about posts and receive AI-generated replies within minutes.
Expanding AI accessibility is a key focus for tech companies developing AI models. Meta, for instance, has integrated its Llama-powered Meta AI assistant into the search bar of Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, and Messenger. Additionally, it has launched a dedicated website and is reportedly working on a standalone Meta AI app.
Unlike Meta, xAI’s Grok chatbot was primarily available through X. However, since the beginning of this year, xAI has introduced multiple new ways to access the AI assistant. Grok now has standalone apps for both iOS and Android, as well as a dedicated website. The company also recently launched a SuperGrok subscription plan, offering users unlimited image generation and early access to new features.
With these ongoing enhancements, X is positioning Grok as a more interactive and widely available AI tool within its ecosystem.
