Gemini AI

Google introduced a dedicated app for its AI-driven assistant, Gemini, on iOS, making it available worldwide. Previously, iOS users needed to access Gemini through the Google app or via the mobile web. This new app simplifies access, offering an optimized experience for iOS users.

The Gemini iOS app supports text prompts in 35 languages, and with its new “Gemini Live” feature, users can chat in real time in 12 languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, Hindi, Portuguese, Arabic, Italian, Indonesian, Japanese, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Google has announced that additional languages will be supported soon.

Many popular Gemini features, like recipe suggestions and study assistance, were already accessible via the Google app and mobile web. However, Gemini Live adds a fresh, dynamic way to engage directly within the native iOS app. Additionally, users can now create images using Google’s Imagen 3 model, which recently reintroduced the ability for Advanced, Business, and Enterprise users to generate images of people after a pause for improvements on historical accuracy.

With Gemini’s app, users can use extensions to seek answers based on data from their connected Google accounts, such as Gmail, Maps, YouTube, and Calendar. Google initially rolled out Gemini on Android in February, first in the U.S., then expanded to countries across Europe and South Asia, supporting local languages in regions like India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka by mid-year.

In related news, Apple’s integration of ChatGPT with Siri is available in the iOS 18.2 public beta and could be released for all users in the coming weeks. Apple has also announced plans to incorporate Google Gemini with Apple Intelligence in the near future, which could lead to exciting new AI experiences on Apple devices.
