Flutterwave, Africa’s leading payments technology company, has announced that online merchants in Nigeria can now accept payments from American Express cardholders. This new feature allows consumers, business owners, and corporate American Express Card Members to make payments directly to Nigerian e-commerce businesses using Flutterwave’s platform.

This service is set to expand beyond Nigeria, becoming available to Flutterwave merchants in Tanzania, Rwanda, Ghana, and Uganda in the near future. The collaboration between Flutterwave and American Express enhances the payment process for both merchants and shoppers, allowing African businesses to tap into a global customer base.

Olugbenga ‘GB’ Agboola, Flutterwave’s Founder and CEO, expressed excitement about the partnership, stating, “At Flutterwave, we’re always looking for ways to connect the world to Africa through payments. This initiative allows more people worldwide to use Flutterwave in Africa, helping businesses expand and making it easier for shoppers to pay.”

Briana Wilsey, Vice President and General Manager of Global Network Services EMEA at American Express, highlighted the benefits of the collaboration, noting that it gives American Express cardholders greater access to Nigerian merchants. The partnership also enables Nigerian businesses to reach a wider audience globally while expanding American Express’ presence in Africa.

This development is expected to boost e-commerce for Flutterwave merchants, offering new payment options for consumers and expanding opportunities for growth across the continent.
