Bolt, the popular ride-hailing company, has extended its services into Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), aiming to enhance private transport options in the city. With the launch, Bolt plans to onboard over 200 drivers and is now accepting requests for airport trips to and from the international airport. The company is also offering a six-month waiver on drivers’ commissions, a strategy it has employed in recent expansions.

This move in the DRC follows Bolt’s recent expansion into Egypt, as part of its broader African expansion strategy. Bolt is now available in over 45 countries, with recent launches in Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Namibia in Q1 2024. In Namibia alone, Bolt onboarded more than 200 drivers upon its February 2024 launch.

To support drivers in newly launched cities, Bolt is waiving the standard commission fee for six months, aiming to boost demand and increase drivers’ earnings potential.

Bolt’s commitment to African markets includes a $542.8 million investment to strengthen its presence and create job opportunities for over 300,000 new drivers.

With its entry into Kinshasa, Bolt aims to transform the transportation landscape in the DRC, offering improved mobility solutions and driving prosperity for drivers and customers.

This expansion aligns with the anticipated growth of the ride-hailing market in Africa, expected to reach $1.99 billion in revenue by 2024 and $2.98 billion by 2028, with a projected increase in ride-hailing users from 13.5% in 2024 to 14.3% by 2028.

Additionally, Bolt reported a 70% year-on-year increase in new companies opening Bolt Business accounts in 2023. Bolt Business provides transportation services to businesses, managing their rides company-wide.
