BasiGo, a Kenyan electric mobility startup, secured KSh396 million ($3 million) in equity funding from CFAO Group to enhance electric bus manufacturing in Kenya and Rwanda. The investment will support BasiGo’s goal of producing and distributing electric buses in East Africa. With 600 bus reservations, including 500 from Nairobi and 100 from Kigali, BasiGo plans to deliver 1,000 electric buses over three years, creating 300 manufacturing jobs in Kenya.

With over 1.5 million kilometres covered and 2.1 million passengers transported, BasiGo’s electric buses have significantly contributed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 680 tonnes in Kenya.
As part of its commitment to fostering green mobility solutions, CFAO Group, in collaboration with CFAO Motor Kenya and Toyota Tsusho Corporation, recently inked a strategic agreement aimed at advancing Kenya’s journey towards carbon neutrality by establishing a green energy value chain. Through its subsidiary, Mobility54, CFAO Group is spearheading investments in green mobility startups to develop an e-mobility ecosystem in East Africa.
In a notable milestone, CFAO Mobility in Rwanda launched the first BYD electric car dealership in Kigali, marking a significant stride towards sustainable transportation in the region. Meanwhile, BasiGo achieved a significant milestone in February 2024 by completing its inaugural batch of locally assembled electric buses in Kenya.
BasiGo continues to solidify its position as a frontrunner in the electric mobility sector, addressing fleet shortages and driving innovation across East Africa.
