As reported, Read.cv, a professional networking platform that aimed to rival LinkedIn, has been acquired by AI-driven search engine Perplexity.
As part of the acquisition, Read.cv will begin winding down its services on Friday. Users will have until May 16 to export their data, including profiles, posts, and messages.
In a blog post announcing the news, Read.cv expressed enthusiasm for the acquisition: “We’ve long admired Perplexity and believe great things happen when the world’s knowledge is made more open and accessible. In that spirit, we are thrilled to be joining the design and engineering team at Perplexity to continue in our shared mission of exploration and discovery.”
Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas echoed this sentiment in a post on X, highlighting the strengths of the Read.cv team: “The team is incredibly capable in designing and building consumer and social experiences, and we look forward to working with them on many new exciting directions!”
Founded in 2021 by Andy Chung, a former product designer at Facebook, Mozilla, and Salesforce-owned Quip, Read.cv offered a range of features for professionals to showcase their resumes and connect with others in their industries. The platform also catered to organizations with tools for team profiles, job postings, and candidate searches.
Recently, Read.cv introduced Sites, a feature enabling users to create personal websites directly from their profiles. This included the option to acquire a “.cv” domain through Read.cv for a more personalized online presence.
With the acquisition, Read.cv has announced plans to migrate “.cv” domains to Hello.cv starting January 31. Users will be able to continue managing their domains through Hello.cv after the transition.
While details of the acquisition remain sparse, Perplexity’s integration of the Read.cv team hints at potential innovations in combining professional networking with AI-powered tools for exploration and discovery.
