Elon Musk’s satellite internet company, Starlink, is set to officially begin operations in Ghana by the end of August 2024. This comes after the National Communications Authority (NCA) granted permission for the firm to operate in the country, following the fulfillment of all necessary regulatory requirements.
According to a statement from the NCA, Starlink will operate under the name SpaceX Starlink GH LTD after concluding all administrative and licensing procedures. Earlier this year, the NCA had approved Starlink’s request to operate in Ghana, but the company had to meet additional criteria before starting operations.
Starlink, known for its super high-speed internet, aims to transform the internet service landscape in Ghana, providing connectivity in even the most remote locations. However, telecom analysts caution that Starlink’s services may come at a premium.
The cost of Starlink equipment is estimated to range from $600 to $2,500, depending on the service requirements. Additionally, monthly fees could fall between $120 and $5,000, based on the level of service subscribed to.
