The Role

Why it’s important: High-quality data and insights are the core value that Stears provides to its customers. They empower our customers to make important decisions during the investment process. This role focuses on sourcing, collecting and publishing company and transaction data our customers need during the investment process.

What it includes: As a Data Research Analyst, your mission is to find, gather, and synthesise data for our data platform. Your work will primarily focus on collecting detailed data on companies and transactions in Africa; however, the projects could evolve to focus on other data for our platform. The work includes research to collect data points, data entry, data wrangling, data cleaning, data visualisation and some data automation processes. It also includes conducting quality checks on all data inputs and outputs.

ResponsibilitiesAs a Data Research Analyst at Stears, you are responsible for:

  • Scouring the internet and public databases to find useful, reliable data points, datasets, and information sources
  • Reading articles and reports to extract specific pieces of information
  • Inputting data into our database, including manual data entry
  • Extracting/scraping data from PDF documents, websites, and other sources
  • Conducting diagnostic data analysis to identify inconsistencies, gaps, errors or discrepancies in large datasets 
  • Cleaning, combining, and organising datasets
  • Contributing to the analysis of data and creating beautiful, interactive data visualisations (training will be provided in Flourish)

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Availability to begin work as soon as possible
  • Knowledge in finance (beginner/intermediate)
  • Training in data science, statistics, econometrics or mathematics
  • A self-starter attitude and the ability to quickly learn on the job, including teaching yourself new skills when needed
  • 1-2 years of experience creating and analysing data using tools like Google Sheets (formulas and pivot tables), Python, SQL, QGIS/ArcGIS, PowerBI, Tableau, PDF scraping software, etc.
  • Passion for data visualisation and making data insights easy to understand
  • Keen attention to detail, especially in data entry and error detection, ensuring all inaccuracies are promptly identified and corrected for optimal data integrity
