Ghana’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is setting its sights on transforming the nation into a world-class digital economy and positioning Ghana as the digital hub of Africa. This ambitious goal will be achieved through strategic policies, competitive incentives, and significant investments designed to accelerate Ghana’s growth in the tech industry.

Investing in Local Talent and Tech Startups

A key component of this vision is a focus on developing local talent and nurturing tech startups. The NPP plans to invest in the future by:

  • Training 1,000,000 Young Ghanaians: By providing training in various levels of digital skills, the NPP is laying the groundwork for a digitally savvy workforce. This initiative will equip young people with the expertise needed to thrive in areas such as software development, cybersecurity, data science, and more.
  • Establishing a National Robotics, Engineering, and AI Lab: In collaboration with educational institutions and leading tech firms, both in Ghana and globally, the NPP aims to create a cutting-edge research and training center. This lab will focus on robotics, engineering, and AI, giving young Ghanaians the opportunity to explore advanced technologies locally. This will foster innovation and ensure that Ghana remains at the forefront of emerging technologies.
  • Providing Venture Funding and Grant Support: To stimulate innovation and entrepreneurship, the NPP will offer venture funding and grants to support commercially viable tech projects by Ghanaian startups. By driving innovation and encouraging high-tech entrepreneurship, this funding will create new jobs and support the growth of local tech businesses.

Fostering Innovation and Creating Jobs

By fostering a culture of innovation through supportive policies and investments, the government aims to empower Ghanaian tech startups to thrive. These startups will not only create jobs for young people but also contribute to the larger economy by exporting tech solutions and services.

With the right training, infrastructure, and financial support, Ghana has the potential to become a beacon of technological advancement in Africa. The NPP’s plan to grow local talent, boost tech startups, and encourage research and development is a bold step toward this future.
