d.light has launched an innovative customer loyalty program, marking a first in the off-grid solar space. The program, known as the “d.light Points Program,” was officially launched in Kenya on August 7, with plans to extend it to Uganda, Tanzania, and Nigeria later in 2024.

Through this initiative, d.light aims to benefit over 500,000 customers by the end of the year. The loyalty program rewards customers who make regular payments towards their PayGo solar products by offering points that can be redeemed for future discounts and rewards, such as tokens for free days of power.

As the program expands, d.light plans to introduce additional rewards for customers across its African markets. The company spent 12 months conducting thorough customer research through focus groups, surveys, and interviews to ensure the program meets its users’ needs.

Customers can track and redeem their points using SMS, USSD messaging, or the d.light mobile app, providing a seamless experience.

Commenting on the program, Donal Connolly, d.light’s Director of Credit, explained that the initiative is a direct response to the financial pressures facing their customers. He noted, “Our customers have faced challenges due to high inflation and income uncertainty, especially in climate-impacted rural areas. We want to support them by acknowledging their loyalty and offering practical rewards that add value to their lives.”

The d.light Points Program allows customers to earn points for consecutive payments, which can then be used for credit on future purchases or free energy days. Connolly added, “This loyalty program delivers tangible benefits that help our customers more easily access reliable solar energy, enhancing their daily lives.”
