This move aims to leverage WhatsApp’s popularity, making banking accessible to a wider audience for convenient mobile transactions.
To utilize the service, customers save the bank’s verified WhatsApp number, 0744 200 555, in their contacts. They then initiate the process by sending a message, prompting a menu to appear. Transactions are secured with a One Time PIN (OTP) sent to the customer’s registered bank number.
Centenary Bank, with an asset base of UGX 5.5 trillion ($1,442,039,500), serves over 2.4 million customers through 79 branches, 205 ATMs, over 7,000 agents, and various digital channels, including CenteMobile banking, CenteOnline banking, CenteVisa debit and prepaid cards, and the Mastercard Platinum debit card.
